Keagan Dolly on how Soweto derby win can ease pressure on Chiefs

“I think this one will be different because of the situation that both teams find themselves in," says Dolly.

Kaizer Chiefs‘ recent performances have put their fans on edge, but midfielder Keagan Dolly is pinning his hopes on the upcoming Soweto derby to turn things around.

“It will officially be number five for me, if I play this weekend,” said Dolly speaking to the media on Thursday.

The much-anticipated clash against arch-rivals Orlando Pirates is scheduled for a 3.30pm kickoff at FNB Stadium, where Chiefs will play host.

Dolly understands the importance of this match not only for the team but also for the passionate supporters longing for a turnaround in Chiefs’ fortunes.

“I think this one will be different because of the situation that both teams find themselves in.

“This time it is not only about the bragging rights, and having the edge over each other but more about the three points.

“The three points are more important for us to climb higher up the log.

“For us as Kaizer Chiefs, we have discussed it in the dressing room after last night’s game that the remaining games, we have to try and win them.

“There is no difference with this one on Saturday, we want to bag the three points and keep the momentum.”

‘Derby win is big for fans’

With the team on their ninth year without a trophy, every performance is now scrutinised and the fans are quick to lose patience.

And Dolly concedes that winning on Saturday could give them the breathing space they need.

“We know winning the derby is something big (for the supporters) but at the end of the day, it’s the three points just like any other league game.

“We know what the expectations are, we know how excited the supporters will be. But for us as players, we want to go into each and every game to win.

“Each game should be important for us to win for our supporters. Obviously if we win this game, the pressure will lessen.

“We will go into the Fifa break a little lighter but I think, for us it is about trying to win the three points and keep the momentum.”
