Dolly sees Nedbank Cup opportunity for Kaizer Chiefs

“We want to get into the semifinal and, ultimately, lift the cup for our supporters,” promises Dolly.

The Nedbank Cup is a chance to make amends, Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Keagan Dolly believes.

Chiefs are in the quarterfinals of the lucrative cup competition where they will meet Royal AM away in Durban at the weekend.

It needs no reiterating that Chiefs have gone an unbelievable seven years without a trophy hence Dolly wants them to curb the rot with Ke Yona.

“This is the opportunity for us to play for something,” Dolly said as quoted in the club’s website on Tuesday.

Chiefs had the better of Royal AM the last time the two met. But that was in a DStv Premiership match.
And the well experienced Dolly knows the cup game will be completely different as there has to be a winner on the day.

“This is a different game to a league game. We have to win no matter how we play. What is important for us is to get to the semi-finals,” said Dolly.

If Chiefs get to the final, it will be their 20th Nedbank Cup, or rather league cup, final appearance.
Should they pip everyone else to the title, it will be their 14th and set a new record yet again for the Naturena side.

But all that can only happen if Chiefs manage to find a way past a Royal AM side who can be stubborn and unpredictable.

Confidence is key

The Durban side will be high on confidence after securing a hard fought 3-1 win over Stellenbosch FC in the league last weekend.

“Royal AM are a good team but we did beat them the last time we played against them which gives us confidence for this game.

“We want to get into the semifinal and, ultimately, lift the cup for our supporters,” promises Dolly.
Chiefs’ route to the quarterfinals has not been easy. Their first opponent was Maritzburg United.

Amakhosi were made to sweat for the win which came only in extra time after the game had ended goalless.

In the last 16, Chiefs were handed a tricky draw against Motsepe Foundation Championship side Casric Stars.

They however managed to get past the first division title chansers and set up a date with Royal AM.
