Chiefs’ Du Preez hungers for more goals, working on finishing

“Sometimes, I feel I am trying too hard so that when a chance comes I rush it," says Du Preez.

Known for his speed and skills, Du Preez has been a shining light for Chiefs during their challenging period.

The team is still grappling with the disappointment of their recent MTN8 semi-finals loss to Mamelodi Sundowns, which dashed their hopes of ending a prolonged trophy drought.

In the 2-1 defeat at Lucas Moripe Stadium, Du Preez did score from the penalty spot but also had other opportunities that went untapped.

He recognizes that this aspect of his game, the ability to capitalise on chances, is an area where he can make a more substantial contribution to the team.

Du Preez is determined to improve and enhance his impact on the pitch for Chiefs.

“I said at the end of last season, I want to improve my game. I don’t want a repeat of the chances I missed,” Du Preez told the club’s website this week.

“I have had a really good start to this season. But for a player like me who works so hard, when I get chances I must be totally focused on improving my finishing.

“Sometimes, I feel I am trying too hard so that when a chance comes I rush it. So I am working a lot on learning to be more composed.

“I go into every performance to do my best when playing for this badge. It’s also a team effort…

“And everyone in the squad is working towards the same goal, which is to win things,” added the 26-year-old.

With the pain of getting knocked out of the MTN8 still presh, Chiefs have another tough assignment on Wednesday evening.

Du Preez to lead line against Sekhukhune

Chiefs meet Sekhukhune United in a DStv Premiership match at Moses Mabhida Stadium and Du Preez is expecting a tough encounter against Babina Noko.

“Sekhukhune are a tough team, they are physical and they can also play. But from our side, coming off a setback, we can go into this game to get rid of our frustrations.

“We must go out there and get the three points, and I will be determined to convert any chances that come my way.

“I think this is a game where we can show our will to win, our resilience, the hunger in the mentality of every player, and do the job.

“If we win our individual battles, we’ll get the points so I am more focused on what we must do than on them,” said Du Preez.
