Khune ready to lead Chiefs to promised land

Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune says the team needs to make the fans happy.

Chiefs have not won a single trophy in two seasons under coach Steve Komphela, Khune believes the new season gives them a change to change their fortunes.

Amakhosi are set to lock horns with Orlando Pirates in a Carling Black Label Cup on Saturday and this game is set to show if Chiefs are ready to deliver in the upcoming season.

“It’s a very important game, because every time we play Pirates there is pride at stake. Our fans want a win,” Khune told SowetanLive.

“We also want to see how far we’ve gone as a team in terms of our preparations for the new season.”

The Bafana Bafana shotstopper is looking forward to helping Amakhosi’s new signings to ease into life at Chiefs.

“We have new players and it’s our responsibility as senior players to guide them. This is a team that wins trophies every season, but the past two seasons have not been our [best] ones. But we are looking forward to this season and we also want to reclaim our glory.

“The only way to change things around is to perform to the best of our abilities, because the coaches prepare us well as players,” Khune said.
