Mammila philosophical over Chippa disallowed ‘goal’

'My players need to understand that happens in football,' Mammila told SuperSport TV.

Chippa United head coach Morgan Mammila remained remarkably calm after seeing his side have a ‘goal’ disallowed by a dreadful offside decision in the Chili Boys’ goalless DStv Premiership draw with Moroka Swallows at Dobsonville Stadium on Wednesday.

Roscoe Petersen’s second half header appeared to have given Chippa the lead, but the assistant referee bizarrely put his flag up for offside, when a Swallows player had clearly headed the ball into Petersen’s path.

It was the type of refereeing howler that would have sent some coaches into a total spin, but the Chippa head coach tried to see the bigger picture.

‘Clear Goal’

“When you score a clear goal and they say it is not a goal, my players need to understand that happens in football, they must not be demoralised when the referee does not give a decision for them,” Mammila told SuperSport TV.

“They (Swallows) played well, and we played well,” he added.

“They (Swallows) are a fast moving training, winning games left and right and we put that to a stop.”
