Chiefs star player given time to decide on future

Hendrick Ekstein has been sidelined at Kaizer Chiefs as he has been given time to make up his mind about whether he wants to stay at the club or move on.

Ekstein, who was finding his groove under Ernst Middendorp, has been a notable absentee in the team in their last game against Maritzburg United and sources have claimed he was given some time to ponder his future.

“The team are being rebuilt and they need to know who they have and who they don’t have for next season especially with the players whom the coach wants to build his team around. He has been dilly-dallying in terms of a contract extension and that has led to him being offered some time off to think things through,” said a source.

As reported by Phakaaathi earlier, there are growing rumours that Ekstein may have already signed a pre-contract elsewhere.

This could be the reason he is stalling his contract renewal.

There have been some rumours that Ekstein might join their fierce rivals Orlando Pirates or SuperSport United at the end of the season.
