Monyane dedicates Pirates win over Sekhukhune to Happy People

"We worked hard, continued pushing and the Happy People once again deserve to be happy,” says Monyane.

With Orlando Pirates having disappointed their fans after being knocked out of Carling Black Label Knockout, Thabiso Monyane says the win against Sekhukhune United was crucial for the team in order to make the Bucs faithful happy.

Monyane scored the only goal of the game, scoring with less than 11 minutes left to full time as Pirates beat Sekhukhune United 1-0 at the Orlando Stadium on Tuesday.

Prior to the victory against Babina Noko, Pirates had gone on a four-game winless run, which saw them recording two draws and two losses in those matches.

“It’s a much needed win, we needed it as team, we worked hard. Never giving up and we worked hard in training sessions, the video sessions and analysing our games,” said Monyane after the match.

“This was the result (we needed), we kept on pushing and we came out with three points. It was (a win) for the fans, the supporters, for our families as well as for the badge. We worked hard, continued pushing and the happy people once again deserve to be happy.”

The win also helped the Buccaneers jump to ninth place on the league standings, having collected 12 points after nine matches.

OPINION: Soweto Derby loses dazzle when Chiefs and Pirates are in nowhere-land

Pirates will now meet Kaizer Chiefs in a Soweto derby at the FNB Stadium on Saturday.

Bucs will be facing a Chiefs side that has also been having their own struggles in terms of getting positive results.

Chiefs are winless in their previous three games. They lost 1-0 to Cape Town City in the league, before they were beaten by the same scoreline by AmaZulu in the Carling Cup Knockout first round. Amakhosi then went down 2-1 to Golden Arrows in their last league game.
