Nabi reacts angrily when asked if he’s the right man to lead Chiefs

“Talk to me about tactics of the game but don’t provoke me. I am not nervous because I lost the match,” said Nabi.


Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi reacted angrily when he was asked if he is still the right man to lead the club.

This comes after Amakhosi suffered a 2-1 defeat to Orlando Pirates in a Soweto derby clash at FNB Stadium on Saturday.

It was Chiefs’ 12th loss of the season and left the club in ninth place in the Betway Premiership standings with three matches remaining in their season.

Nabi was asked during a post-match interview if he still though he was the right man to lead Amakhosi considering that the club’s struggles in the league this campaign.

“I don’t think you (the reporter) are the right person to decide if am going to stay or not. My role as to why I am here at the club is the process and we can’t expect immediate results,” responded the Tunisian coach.

“I came here for the process and you can’t ask me why I am staying here because the results are bad. Don’t provoke me because I am not a young coach, I have a lot of experience.

“Talk to me about tactics of the game but don’t provoke me. I am not nervous because I lost the match,” added Nabi.

Having taken an early lead through Glody Lilepo, Nabi said Chiefs did not deserve to lose the game.

“Unfortunately, this is a game we should not have lost,” said Nabi.

“When you look at the performances of the two teams, we started the game well. We felt we had the opportunity to kill the game but we didn’t take our opportunities to kill it when we were in our best moments.”

Nabi explains Cele and Miguel decision

Nabi has explained why he started influential midfielder Thabo Cele and defender Inacio Miguel on the bench in the Soweto derby.

While Cele did feature in the later stages of the match when he came on for Nkosingiphile Ngcobo, Miguel remained on the bench throughout the game.

“For Cele, he is coming from an injury, and he hasn’t fully trained, and he’s been injured. That’s why he wasn’t fully fit – 100 per cent to start the game, to play the 90 minutes.

“About Inacio, it is the same thing, he is coming from an injury, and he wasn’t really fully fit to give a 100 per cent performance,” explained Nabi.

Cele and Miguel are expected to start the game when the sides meet again in the Nedbank Cup final on Saturday.
