Pirates coach Riveiro rues lack of killer instinct

Goals seem to have dried up at Pirates, especially in the league, where they have failed to score in their last two games.

Orlando Pirates failure to find the back of the net in their recent games is a concern for coach Jose Riveiro.

Goals seem to have dried up at Pirates, especially in the league, where they have failed to score in their last two games against Mamelodi Sundowns (lost 1-0) and AmaZulu FC (drew 0-0).

Overall, Bucs have scored seven goals and conceded five in their opening six matches of the season.

Riveiro believes that his players are putting a lot of effort to try and win their games, and he says they will soon be rewarded for their hard work.

“We need to capitalise and finish what we start. The guys are trying, we are doing a lot of things very well, and it’s something that will pay very soon rather than later,” said the Bucs coach.

The Spaniard will be hoping that his charges find the back and win the match when they play Polokwane City in a DStv Premiership clash at Orlando Stadium on Friday.

The Buccaneers are facing a Rise and Shine side that has been doing decently well on their return to top-flight football.

While Pirates are laying at the bottom half of the league standings, City are at the top half with the Limpopo based side occupying fifth place on the log with 14 points after nine matches.

Polokwane are also high on confidence heading into this tie, with the club having also secured their place in the last eight of the Carling knock-out after thrashing SuperSport United 4-1 last weekend.
