Pirates to headline Durban Carling Knockout double-header

The Buccaners will play Richards Bay first at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.

Orlando Pirates’ Carling Black Label Knockout quarterfinal against Richards Bay will form part of a double-header at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on November 4, the Premier Soccer League announced on Thursday.

The Buccaneers will face Richards Bay at 3pm in their last eight game, which will be followed by a KwaZulu-Natal derby between AmaZulu and Golden Arrows at 7pm.

The Carling Knockout quarterfinals will start on November 3, as Polokwane City host Stellenbosch at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium. The other quarterfinal, between Sekhukhune United and TS Galaxy, will also take place in Polokwane, at the new Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday night. That match has an 8pm kick off.

The Buccaneers, who have already won this season’s MTN8, are going for a fourth successive domestic knockout title, after also winning last season’s MTN8 and Nedbank Cup. They are heavy favourites already to win the Carling Knockout, with Mamelodi Sundowns, Kaizer Chiefs and SuperSport United already out of the competition.

A favourable draw

Pirates have also had a decent draw up to now, taking on the league’s bottom side Cape Town Spurs in the last 16, while they now face the side placed 15th on the DStv Premiership table, Richards Bay, in the quarterfinals.

Richards Bay have won just two games all season, including their Carling Knockout last 16 win over Moroka Swallows.
