With two games already played, Royal find themselves second from the bottom of the league standings, after losing to Swallows FC and Cape Town City.

But, Mahlasela sees light at the end of the tunnel, and says their first game was a bit tricky since the players didn’t really have enough time to train together – this, was after the KwaZulu-Natal side bought the status of Bloemfontein Celtic, which saw the players having to merge.

“First of all I would like to talk about the Swallows game, which was out first game of the season. It was a tough game and it came only after three days we have been training as a club. We had to fight, but it was not easy, the unfortunate part is that we lost the game in dying minutes of the match. We have to build from there going forward,” said the former Kaizer Chiefs and Celtic winger.

“Then, the game against Cape Town City. I think we played much better. But I believe we can still improve as a group. But there were lots of improvement, that is why I believe there is still a lot coming from Royal AM.

”With the league on a break due to the Fifa calendar, the former Kaizer Chiefs player adds that they are using this period to get know understand each other and work on their tactics.

“We know where we are on the log, so, this Fifa break we are using it to our advantage. We are training, no one went home. So, are here training and working hard because we want to improve as a team and as individuals. Hopefully, whatever we are doing here at training will help us going forward.”

The winger will be hoping for change of fortunes by the time the league resumes, with Royal set to host Eastern Cape outfit Chippa United on 12 September.
