Stellenbosch close in on Sundowns’ Mobbie

New Mamelodi Sundowns signing Nyiko Mobbie is set to join Stellenbosch FC on loan for the rest of the season.

The 24-year-old right-back has already started training with the club, while the deal is being finalised.

Stellies coach Steve Barker confirmed to Phakaaathi that Nyiko was set to join his club.

“Yes, he’s here. We’re looking to sign him on loan.”

Asked if the deal has been finalised yet Barker said: “We’re finalising the final details of it and we’ll make an announcement as soon as everything is finalised.”

Mobbie joined Sundowns from relegated Free State Stars in July, but was never unveiled by the club, with word coming out of the Brazilians camp saying that the club management was divided about his signing.

At the end of July, Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane confirmed that the club had signed Mobbie and Mauricio Affonso, but revealed that Nyiko was to be sent out on loan as he was not in his plans for this season.

“We have signed two [players]. We have signed Affonso and we have signed Mobbie but we will be loaning him out,” Mosimane told reporters.

Mobbie now looks set to spend this season at Stellies on loan.
