Truter rues missed chances and mistakes after Chiefs loss

"We managed to make it very uncomfortable for them, but with better decision-making, we could have punished them even more," says Truter.

Sekhukhune United coach Brandon Truter found himself pondering missed opportunities as his team fell to Kaizer Chiefs in a DStv Premiership clash at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Babina Noko initially took the lead, but their fortunes took a downturn towards the end of the game.

Chiefs orchestrated a comeback, securing a 2-1 victory. And Truter couldn’t help but lament the errors and missed chances that slipped through their fingers during the match.

It was one of those matches where the outcome might have been different if a few things had gone their way, leaving Truter with a sense of what might have been.

“It’s a match that we feel we should have gotten more from,” said Truter after the game.

“I think Badra (Sangare, the keeper) made one mistake in the build-up and we got punished.

“We cleared the set-play and then switched off, I could see from the side there was a conversation between some players, and they put it in and punished us.”

Chiefs’ equaliser came after Sangare’s attempt to start play from the back went horribly wrong with the ball ending in his own net.

“Other than a few long-range shots that were blocked, I didn’t see Badra making any saves in the first or second halves.

“We had (Chibuike) Ohizu, who had a one-on-one with the goalkeeper and he didn’t even take a shot.

“And towards the end, there was a rebound from Vila (Sibusiso Vilakazi) with an open net and he missed it.

“But ja, I think we deserved better, or something from the game. We could have done better as well.

“But in the end, tactically and structurally we were organised, we repelled them in the right areas,” added Truter.

“We managed to make it very uncomfortable for them, but with better decision-making, we could have punished them even more.

“But that’s football for you and, like I said, I think we could have and should have gathered something much better [in terms of the result].”
