Kanye West and Candice Swanepoel’s rumoured relationship dismissed as PR stunt

A few months ago, Kanye West and Candice Swanepoel sparked rumours of a budding romance after being spotted out on the town together.

South Africans are taking an interest in Kanye West’s rumoured new relationship with model Candice Swanepoel, however, industry insiders have long-dismissed the relationship as a publicity stunt.

A few months ago, the pair sparked rumours of a budding romance after being spotted out on the town together.

According to Page Six, Swanepoel is the face of Yeezy GAP sunglasses and the pair partied together at a New York Fashion Week event in September.

A source is said to have told media outlet ET, “Kanye and Candice are dating and their relationship is new… They’ve connected over fashion and creativity”.

An insider told Page Six that the entire thing was mostly a “PR stunt”.

Kanye West ends his relationship with GAP

Back in September, West ended his relationship with Gap claiming they did not deliver on all their promises and he announced his decision a week after the party for the range of sunglasses called SHDZ.

It is unclear what his decision to cut ties with GAP meant for his “relationship” with Swanepoel.

Who is Candice Swanepoel?

Candice Susan Swanepoel is a South African model and philanthropist.

According to her Wikipedia page, she is known for her work with Victoria’s Secret. She became a Victoria’s Secret Angel in 2010. In 2016, she was listed 8th on the Forbes top-earning models list.

She speaks fluent Afrikaans, English and Brazilian Portuguese – a language she learned from her now ex-boyfriend Hermann Nicoli, a Brazilian model.

Swanepoel and Nicoli began dating after they met in Paris when she was 17 and he was 23.

They announced their engagement in August 2015, though it seems they never wed.

Swanepoel and Nicoli have two sons together and went on to have an acrimonious break-up in November 2018.

They have since managed to work out an agreement that allows them to co-parent to their sons.

West has come to the same agreement with his ex-wife, Kim Kardashian, with whom he shares four children.

A judge recently ruled that West would contribute R3.5 million to the children’s living expenses. This amounts to half of what it reportedly costs to raise, educate and protect the children and Kardashian would cover the other half of the costs.
