Notes from the beauty desk

As someone who writes a weekly beauty column, it isn't always easy to find riveting ways to talk about nails, hair and choosing liptsticks.

And while most of us “real journos” have a tough time acknowledging bloggers, vloggers and other web-related content as a real source, I don’t. I embrace the new age. And accept that while I have busy days of fulfilling various sections within the paper, a blogger may be solely dedicated to their written word focusing on a specific passion. They’re pretty lucky if you think about it.

Here are five choice destinations to get a feel for what’s out there in the beauty world:

1. Wakeupand make up:
With 6.4 millions followers on Instagram this passionate feed is for lovers of beauty techniques and make-up. Filled with people of ages, and colour, these 15 second videos showcasing people from around globe showcasing their talents will fascinate you. Whether you looking for a glamourous look that will turn heads all evening, or something simple for work and weekend chilling the ideas are endless and will suit just about anyone’s taste.

4. Pink Peonies
If it’s honest product reviews you are looking for with a touch of pizzaz and class this South African blog has it all. Pink Peonies is nicely linked to its Intsagram account and blogger Luzanne clearly marks the products she has been paid to review separately from products that she actually buys and reviews. The blog is simple and clean but pretty enough to keep you coming back for more. And while Luzanne is pretty au naturale her youtube transformations are simply sublime to watch.
