New casino resort exceeding all expectations as it is near completion
All hard construction at the resort, including the installation of ceilings, air-conditioners and bathroom tiling at the three-star Metcourt Hotel, has been completed.
BURGERSFORT – The Thaba Moshate Hotel Casino and Convention Resort’s construction team has successfully made up for lost production time during the metalworkers union strike and is once again on track for the grand opening in early 2015. Peermont gave Steelburger/Lydenburg News the opportunity to accompany them to the site on November 20.
All hard construction at the resort, including the installation of ceilings, air-conditioners and bathroom tiling at the three-star Metcourt Hotel, has been completed, while construction in the convention centre and lobby areas is nearing completion. Civil works including road infrastructure and drains are substantially completed as the project management team reached two major milestones in the building process with the recent connection of water and sanitation.
Peermont invested R320 million towards the Thaba Moshate Hotel Casino and Convention Resort. This investment will not only be a boost for the Burgersfort economy, but will also drive enterprise development and job creation within the Greater Tubatse Municipality.
The casino is located between the R37 from Burgersfort to Polokwane and the R555 to Steelpoort.
“Limpopo is divided into three sections; north, west and south-east. The south-east is the only one that does not have a casino. We chose to open a casino in the Burgersfort area, because of its vast growth potential,” said Thabo Mokoena, Peermont Group development executive.
The Thaba Moshate Hotel Casino and Convention Resort has contributed to job creation and skills development regarding the employment. After receiving more than 3 000 CVs from applicants for consideration for the training school, a careful selection process has resulted in the gaming training school that is currently underway. This phase will continue until opening, whereafter training will continue in the operating phase. Successful candidates are undergoing a rigorous interview process to ensure that individuals are placed from the Greater Tubatse Municipality and the Sekhukhune area, as part of Thaba Moshate’s commitment to local job creation.
“The selection criterion was very strict to ensure that we got the very best candidates from the area – 700 applicants wrote numeracy and literacy assessments”, said Malebo Mpepele, group training and development manager at Peermont. “The top 150 candidates were interviewed and 79 were then placed in the training school. We aim to employ all the trainees who complete this programme,” added Mpepele.
“We are satisfied with the construction progress and more importantly the total number of work opportunities created by this development. The selection of local employees, particularly female workers, exceeded our promise to the community,” said Clifford Ngakane, newly appointed Thaba Moshate general manager. “Thaba Moshate’s local employment drive is aligned to the demographic profile of the Greater Tubatse Municipality and we are happy to announce that we have also surpassed our commitments with regard to local and BEE procurement during the construction phase,” Ngakane concluded.
Thaba Moshate Hotel Casino and Convention Resort will cater for different needs. Non-smoking and smoking areas can be found in any part of the casino resort. The Peermont Boulevard (entrance to the resort) is a pedestrian walkway and taxi drop-off for citizens who use public transport. The crèche and video playroom assure parents of children’s safety while they enjoy responsible gambling. The hotel will be equipped with four types of rooms – the classic, the superior, the long stay and suites. There will also be a suite for the disabled.
