Lowvelders tackle Gajiga’s inflatable obstacles

Lowvelders celebrated Heritage Day by attending the first Gajiga Run which took place at Kwanyoni Lodge on Saturday.

Crush Events organised the five-kilometre fun run with seven massive inflatable obstacles for participants to navigate en route. The main aim of the day was to bring family and friends together to have loads of fun, and to raise awareness and funds for a number of charities in the Lowveld.

The Gajiga runs are held throughout the country and a portion of the proceeds goes to the Childhood Cancer Foundation. Director and CEO of Crush Events, Zané Jansen van Rensburg told Lowvelder that she would like to make this an annual event. “Our mission here is to create awareness around charities in the Lowveld that need assistance.”

The main charities involved were Hero Burn Foundation, which creates awareness for victims of severe burn wounds and helps them to get back on their feet, as well as Solidariteit Helpende Hand Lowveld, which, among others, supports poverty-stricken people and helps underprivileged children to get a tertiary education after completing school. Crush Events sponsored tickets to Mommy’s Baby Angels for the children to enter the run.

They were also given a weekend getaway to Kwanyoni Lodge where they could enjoy the amenities the lodge has to offer. Afterwards, P3 Productions did an amazing set up of the stage and lights, and local artists with the likes of Lonita Swift, Anton Botha, Anna-Marie White and Jansen van Rensburg performed.

Marc Patterson was the MC of the day, and Sean Sandiford, owner of the Gajiga Run was there to start the participants off. There were plenty of activities to keep the crowds entertained with fishing, archery, volleyball, and pony rides on offer, along with a beer garden and food stalls. Braai packs and facilities were also available to celebrate Heritage Day.

Crush Events thanked Uniwisp, J&M Security, Mbombela Catering Services, Tripwired Embroidery, Lowveld Media, Crocodile Printers and World Sport Promotions for making the epic day possible.
