Elvis, chimps and Pumas fill the lives of Kamagugu kids

The third term of Kamagugu Inclusive School has been an exciting and busy one.

NELSPRUIT – Fifteen pupils – proud supporters of the Steval Pumas – had the opportunity of running onto the field with the team dressed in rugby jerseys. Another 75 had the opportunity to watch the Pumas thrash Griquas and drive in the official team bus.

More fun came with I'langa’s trolley race. Eight boys decorated a trolley. They gave it their all, as they ran around a demarcated area of I'langa. They came second overall, a wonderful achievement considering that they were competing against mainstream schools such as Lowveld High and Bergvlam.

This was followed by a fun sports day against Estralita School with mini-cricket and hockey at the Kamgugu stadium. All matches were keenly contested and very close, and the children had loads of fun. Physically disabled learners also played an adapted form of mini-cricket against DASHA School.

Also on the sport front, Kamagugu Inclusive school joined the LSEN – Mpumalanga Soccer League. Playing against two mainstream schools Lekhazi and Tenteleni Primary School, the boys have played themselves into the first spot in the subsection of the league. The top players will be selected to present Mpumulanga in a tournament in September.

They recently held a very successful golf day at Matumi golf course and R100 000 was raised for the school. This money will be used to build new classrooms in 2014. Golf clubs were also donated to the school, so golf has been introduced as one of their sport activities on Wednesdays. A very big thank you to Mr and Mrs Ring for

coordinating and organising this very successful day.

A number of learners met singer Elvis Blue at Chimp Eden during the holidays. The Innibos committee organised an exclusive concert for learners with him. They were touched by his passion and giving heart. He donated a percentage of his earnings from his appearance at Innibos to the school. Innibos delivered beautiful gifts to all foundation phase learners, which they collected from the Innibos spectators. It was an early Christmas for these kids and for many of them perhaps the only present they will ever receive this year.

A number of classes have also been on outings this term – to Montana Nursery, the Airport, and Chimp Eden. These excursions are a wonderful educational opportunity and a highlight for these children.
