Penryn youngsters dance to their own tune

Penryn prep pupils delivered a thoroughly entertaining performance at their annual concert last week.

It’s not every day that a group of preschoolers teach their parents a life lesson or two.

This was the case at Penryn Preschool’s annual concert that was held at the college’s chapel last Wednesday evening.

Parents sat, video camera in hand, anxiously awaiting their children’s appearance as part of the jungle community in the play Giraffes can’t dance, based on the book by Giles Andrae with the same title.

It tells the story of various jungle characters that compete in a dance and poor Gerald Giraffe who couldn’t do it at all.

The first contestants were the wonderful warthogs (Gr00), who performed a classic waltz. They were followed by the Gr 000s, dressed as elegant elephants that were ready to boogie. The snapping celtic crocodiles (Gr00) entered the dance floor dressed in green and yellow, who then made way for the Gr Rs, or rather – the rocking rhinos, tangoing lions and zooty zebras, who took to the floor with a cheeky cha-cha.

Sad Gerald was advised by a wise cricket that because he was different, he just needed a different song to dance to.

Gerald, with some new music, then found that he could dance after all and the animals declared him the best dancer that they had ever seen.
