Chief is delighted with the response to the ummemo
Speaking on the last day of the commemoration, Nkosi said such a function engaged the community to learn about their cultural values in an effort to ensure the spirit of humanity was upheld at all times.

EMJINDINI – Chief Kenneth Nkosi of the Emjindini Traditional Kraal said he was pleased with the growing number of people who were attending his ummemo (cultural function) yearly.
Speaking on the last day of the commemoration, Nkosi said such a function engaged the community to learn about their cultural values in an effort to ensure the spirit of humanity was upheld at all times.
“For the past couple of years, we have seen an increase in the number of people attending ummemo. We hope it will continue to grow,” he said. He called for the establishment of traditional dancing and singing competitions. “Umjindi is fertile when it comes to cultural performers and dancers. It’s time we get a sponsor that will stage such contests, which will encourage the youth to participate in numbers.” He also cried foul about the R50 000 that they were subsidised with to run the ummemo ceremony.
“The funding is not enough. We have to purchase six cows. However, we thank all the contributors for making the ceremony a successful one.” It was graced by various chiefs from other regiments. Among them was Chief Mvelase Mbuyane of Mbuyane Traditional Council in Hlau Hlau, Inkosi Hlungu Nkosi of Msogwaba Traditional Council and Ndvuna Umngani Wemakhosi Fakudze of Swaziland. Kgosi Mathibela Mokoena, chairman of the House of Traditional Leaders in Mpumalanga was also among the dignitaries.
Dressed in their best traditional regalia, cultural dancers and performers entertained the community.
Sunduza Nkosi, the chief imbongi (praise) called for the protection of traditional leaders. “Nowadays everyone wants to be a chief. A chief don’t come anywhere. He/she is elected.
It is high time that they are protected because they are custodians of our our culture’s restoration,” said Nkosi.
He said the ummemo was a success and thanked everyone who attended it.
