GA MASHAMOTHANE – Hard-working learners received trophies and certificates at Batau High School’s prize-giving ceremony on Friday October 11. The Sekhukhune FET college also donated bags to the winners.
The best learners from grade eight to 12 were on cloud nine. They sang and chanted in jubilation as they were presented with their gongs.
The ceremony was attended by SAPS members, parents and the local community. Guest speaker of the day, Mr Benjamin Moeng gave the learners tips on how to be successful in life.
“Discipline, commitment, and passion are the keys to success, if you don’t respect yourself and also don’t respect others, then you won’t find success,” said Moeng who holds a BCompt honours degree. He will qualify as a chartered accountant next year – the first black one from Tubatse.
Moeng shared his success story with the learners, telling them about the difficulties he had encountered in life. “I am from a disadvantaged family, but I never let my family’s situation determine my future. I never paid a single cent at university. It doesn’t take money to be successful,” he added.
Learners seemed to take to heart what the guest speaker had told them, most were seen nodding heads while others vowed to study hard for the upcoming exams.
The academic achievers for this year are Tebogo Mohlala (grade 8) and Lereko Ramaepadi (grade nine). She is also the best learner in the school.
The grade 10 best learner award went to Matilda Maepa while grade 11’s outstanding pupil was Itumeleng Shokane. The most promising matric learner at Batau High wasThapelo Masete.
