WHITE RIVER – Christmas is less than two months away and Uplands College started preparations for it this weekend. The schools held its annual Christmas festival and market on Saturday.
People sold clothes, handmade soaps along with knitted toys and general Chirstmas knick-knacks. The products on sale offered something for everyone.
Raymond Nopper was there with his Epa! product range that includes hot sauces as well as stuffed olives and olive pastes with different flavouring. He said they expected to do reasonable business and as a result he was quite surprised at how well their products sold.
Lynette Taljard said the products on sale were beautiful. “It really is an arts market. It is wonderful for women. There are loads of beautiful things which are relatively cheap.”
Not only were the offerings unique, but those that can generally be found in shops we sold at a much lower price, such as the soap range.
Maryke de Wet sold one-size-fits all shirts that can be worn as pants, a dress or a shirt that can be folded in 18 different ways to look different every time it is worn. Other clothes included the funky Guru Girl label for children and smart boutique clothes for adults.
To accessorise, Nerine Botha had a stall with her handmade jewellery. For grooming, Karen Fourie makes real oil-based perfume that stays on the skin and smells just like one’s favourite brand along with other beauty products.
There were also toys and art on sale, and self-heating cups of coffee. These are ideal for camping as one only ads water and activate the tin before one has a steaming hot cup of coffee or hot chocolate ready in three minuets.
For premade coffee, Lucretia Masher and Unopa Tarwa organised the tea garden with divine red velvet and chocolate cupcakes to offer comfort against the gloomy overcast weather along with the festive feeling of the market.
To top it all, the few who failed to attend may still benefit if they receive a gorgeous item from the market in their Christmas stockings.
