Book Day celebrated with a unique dress-up.

On September 6 Hoërskool Lydenburg supported National Book Day under the guidance of the English department. Pupils and teachers were asked to dress up as their favourite book characters and some of them showed up in really funny costumes. The winners each received prizes sponsored by PNA Lydenburg, which included funky bookmarks, inspirational books as well as book vouchers.

The teachers were just as keen as the learners to participate and Ms Gizella Pieterse, who represented Grumpy the dwarf from Snow White, grabbed the third prize while the second place went to Ms Carina Venter who came as Harry Hole of the Jo Nesbo crime series. The winner, with a timeless classic, was Ms Vickey de Jager, who came as Miss Trunchbull from Matilda, written by Roald Dahl.

The learners were extremely creative and it was difficult to choose winners. The third place went to Etli Van der Merwe who dressed as the bride of Frankenstein and second was Freddie Mokwena who was an excellent Moses from the Bible. Trevor Murray exceeded all expectations with his The Cat in The Hat costume, and finally walked away with the first prize during this fun-filled day. The money being raised was used to buy story books for the school. Hoërskool Lydenburg would like to thank PNA for making such a wonderful competition possible.
