Best matric learner in Tubatse pleads for a bursary.

She was always the first to come and the last to leave at school

BURGERSFORT- She is the best matric learner in the Greater Tubatse Municipality (GTM) but tiny Palesa Nkgabane (17) does not have the tuition fees to enroll for her dream qualification, electrical engineering.

The dedicated Nkgabane received distinctions in all her seven subjects – Sepedi, English, maths, physical science, geography; life orientation and life sciences. She was accepted to study at Wits University but she does not have funds for registration. Her mother is a single parent and is unable to afford the university costs.

“I applied for almost all bursaries in the mines, but they never responded. All I want now is an opportunity to further my studies,” said the determined matriculant from Ga Mongatana near the town.

Palesa was born on May 29, 1996 She completed her primary-school studies at Motlamotse Primary School. She started her secondary studies at Northern Academy in 2009. The following year she went to Mafadi Academy in Moroke to do her grade 9. She then left Mafadi and registered for grade 10 at St Thomas College in 2011. She was the best learner at the school for 2013.

Principal at St Thomas College Mr Samuel George is pleading with the local businesses owners, the mines and the municipality to offer Nkgabane an opportunity she desires.

“She was always the first to come to school and the last to leave; it was not by fluke she achieved these magnificent results. This girl always put her studies first; she always followed her teachers when she had problems with her school work. I wish a good Samaritan would come to our rescue and ensure she registers at Wits,” pleaded the principal.

Companies and business people wishing to help Nkgabane with her tuition fees can contact Samuel on 013 231 8391.
