MAPUTO – Another mysterious assassination has occurred less than a week after an alleged kidnapping kingpin was killed. AIM reported that unknown assailants attacked a vehicle at Bobole, 48 kilometres north of Maputo, on Monday night and murdered three people inside.
This after the mastermind that was behind the assassination of a journalist and kidnappings, Vincente Ramaya became the target of a hit last week Friday in the city.
Two assailants murdered Ramaya who was one of the businessmen who ordered the assassination in November 2000 of Mozambique´s finest investigative journalist’s, Carlos Cardoso
Now on Monday, a prolonged shoot-out, beginning at about 21.00, and causing panic among nearby residents left three dead. The attackers also then set the car, a Toyota Corolla, alight. The bodies of the three men were burnt so badly in the fire, that they have not yet been identified.
The hit took place about 200 metres from the main north-south highway, on a dirt track leading to a tourist establishment called Casa Liza. Some of those who heard the shooting also said they heard cries for help, followed by more shots, and then silence.
Ramaya, who has been on parole since January 2013, after serving half of his sentence for the Cardoso murder, was shot in his car in the Maputo neighbourhood of Polana. He was accompanied by his brother-in-law, Nazir Sale.
All that is known of the murderers in Ramaya’s murder, was that they were of Asian appearance.
In regards to the most recent hit of three unknown victims, they were either political or criminal. Police told mediated that they were not going going to state that those who carried out this crime were Renamo men or not, as they were still working to find evidence that would help them gather facts .
Bobole was hundreds of kilometres further south than any previous attack in the current Renamo military campaign. The Marracuene authorities categorically denied that there were any armed groups in the district. They suspected that politics had nothing to do with the crime, which may have been a settling of accounts in the criminal underworld.
