Town library still needs work

BURGERSFORT – Some improvements have been carried out at at the local library after the Greater Tubatse Municipality had received complaints, and an article and reader’s letter had been published.
Mr Charles Mmala, a regular visitor to the library, took it upon himself to beautify its garden last year without any payment. This was after he’d read the published letter about the state of the premises. He was baffled by the municipality’s apparent inability to maintain or manage the facility.
Mr Thabiso Mokoena, spokesman for the municipality, assured the newspaper that they were taking care of the situation and had ordered new air conditioners. The local government fixed all of them in January.
Although some of the complaints had been addressed, it now seems that not all issues had been catered for. The tap outside the library is still leaking. “It attracts mosquitos the size of dragonflies. It’s like the leaders are living in Sandton City and we are stuck in a village. They are using lifts while we are using wheelbarrows,” Mmala said about this issue in an interview with the newspaper.
In his letter to the newspaper, Mr SJ Mphahlele stated that the library exterior was not inviting. “It has no flowers, garden or lawn to show life, therefore that means there is no life in Tubatse,” he wrote.
It seems that this is still the case as there has been no improvement to the garden. The deterioration of the building is also blatantly visible from the outside.
Mokoena once again assured the newspaper in a phone call them on Tuesday that the leaking tap and the maintenance issues would be taken up with the relevant people and catered for as soon as possible.
