Badplaas residents in dire need of water

The problem is now becoming such a crisis that blocked toilets are not only posing a serious health risk, but also costing a lot in repairs as plumbers have to be called in to fix blocked drains.

BADPLAAS – Residents of the village have been without water for the past seven days and are now demanding urgent answers as the situation has become intolerable.

According to one of them, who wished to remain anonymous, they received a letter from Chief Albert Luthuli Municipality on the third day in which it apologised for the inconvenience and promised it would not happen again.

“I managed to do one load of washing and had a shower. The next morning, we were without water again,” she said.

The problem is now becoming such a crisis that blocked toilets are not only posing a serious health risk, but also costing a lot in repairs as plumbers have to be called in to fix blocked drains.

Most people have not seen one tanker distributing the promised water to the people. Currently, residents are driving to lodges and Forever Resorts to use their ablution blocks. People are also streaming to the Total Garage to fill up containers with water.

“How long we have to tolerate this, we don’t know, but we can’t take it much longer,” she said.
The councillor responsible for the district, Cllr BM Vilakazi of Albert Luthuli Local Municipality, was contacted by Barberton Times, but he said he was not allowed to interact with the media. However, he gave us the contact details of the municipality’s media liaison, Mr Wonder Shabangu.

According to Shabangu’s receptionist he was out of the office and she didn’t have a contact number for him.
