Case of attempted murder postponed yet again

Richard Hume appeared in court on March 26, but his trial had been postponed yet again due to the recovery of an eyewitness.

MALALANE – Richard Hume appeared in court on March 26, but his trial had been postponed yet again due to the recovery of an eyewitness.

Last year Hume was charged with attempted murder when he had shot an alleged poacher fleeing from his property. The suspect has since been recovering in hospital from a gunshot wound to the head.

Witnesses said Hume had opened fire when the three suspects attempted to flee with the poached game loaded on the back of a small white bakkie after he had confronted them.

Bheki Nkosi, spokesman for police told Corridor Gazette that Hume had been charged with attempted murder and the suspects with illegal possession of dead game, trespassing and the illegal possession of a firearm.

The charges against them were provisionally withdrawn by the court last year and removed from the roll. Hume’s trial has been postponed to May 5.
