Trial date set for alleged fraudster

NELSPRUIT – The man facing several charges of fraud in Hazyview and Nelspruit is due to stand trial on April 24. Mr Derek Poole is to face the fraud charge against him in Hazyview from April 24.

He was released on R2 000 bail on November 4 after being arrested in the Kruger National Park on October 29. Ms Carol van der Westhuizen of GAP Tours laid the charge against him. She alleged that Poole owed her about R25 000 for taking a tour group of his on safari in June last year.

Aside from the fraud charges is in Hazyview, he also faces two fraud charges and a charge of assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm in Nelspruit.

He was released on R2 000 bail on November 5. One of the fraud charges relates to complaints levelled against Poole by Mr Victor Pitchers who claims he was defrauded of approximately R150 000 through a business, Kurger’s Hub, which they ran together. Poole reappeared in the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court last week on the charges. The accused’s next appearance here is scheduled for May 22.

Poole also faced charges of fraud in Midrand where the case had not gone to trial. He faces five counts of fraud amounting to over R1 million on charges laid against him in Midrand. He had been released on R5 000 bail. Poole’s next court appearance here in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court is on April 30.
