Five suspects arrested for farm murder

MALALANE –Last night June 2, police recovered the stolen vehicle and all the stolen belongings of the late, Mr Riaan van den Berg, and arrested five suspects accused of the farm attack.

Five suspects were apprehended by police following a tip off received from Bossies Community Justice in Nelspruit.

Four men aged between 25 and 34, together with a 24-years-old woman were arrested in the early hours of this morning at Matsulu outside Malalane.

The stolen vehicle and house appliances belonging to Van den Berg were found in the suspects possessions.

“The success was a result of an Intelligent Driven Sting Operation which started yesterday at 21:30 until this morning at 02:00, with the arrest of the suspects who were nabbed while sleeping at their respective homes.” said Brig Selvy Mohlala.

Van Der Berg was found murdered on Friday May 30 in his Malalane homestead with his hands still bound and a rope on his neck.

The suspects  fled the scene with his silver Nissan Hardbody, a television, tumble dryer, home theatre system and a cellphone. All the suspects will appear before the Malalane Periodical Court tomorrow June 4, on charges of murder and house robbery.

ThePolice Provincial Commissioner of Mpumalanga, Lt Gen Thulani Ntobela has commended the members that were involved in the sting operation for a job well-done and speedily arrest of the suspects before they continued with their criminal acts in the province.

He said, “This is the kind of dedication that we want to see in our organisation. I hope that other members can take cue from this team so that we can swiftly deal with any form of crime in our province.”

He also thanked the community and Bossies Community Justice for assisting with information that lead to the arrest of this suspects.
