House of horrors- man hands himself over to police

The alleged mastermind behind the house of horrors and the leader of the Bushbuckridge Residents Association (BRA), Mr Delta Mokwena , has handed himself over to police.

ACORNHOEK – The alleged mastermind behind the house of horrors and the leader of the Bushbuckridge Residents Association (BRA), Mr Delta Mokwena , has handed himself over to police.

According to Sergeant Gerald Sedibe , Mokwena handed himself over to police on Tuesday morning.

The total of people now arrested for the tortures that were alleged to have occurred at a house near Acornhoek, is 17.

Nine appeared in court on Monday and were granted R1,000 bail each. Their case was postponed to August 14.

The other co-accused, including Mokwena, were denied bail and would remain in custody.

“The eight will be back in court on July 22,” he said.

Mokwena is wanted for other crimes committed against community members and was found guilty of torching a 66-year-old Mr Ranson Mashile’s house in Ga-Boelang village outside Bushbuckridge in August 2012 after accusing him of bewitching his close friend and killing him.

Six of their victims from the house, who were placed in a witness protection programme, spoke to Lowvelder on how they were apparently tortured for trumped up charges against them.

Their assailants reportedly operated from an unoccupied house belonging to the department of Agriculture.
