The three suspects arrested for the robbery of Sizakalani Cash Loans on Friday July 11, appeared in court again on Monday, July 21.

MALALANE – The three suspects arrested for the robbery of Sizakalani Cash Loans on Friday July 11, appeared in court again on Monday, July 21.

Mzamani Baloyi (40) and Sifiso Nklema (26) was granted bail of R1 500 each and the court date has been postponed to August 27.

On Monday July 14, Nomsa Qotwane (51) an employee of Sizakalani Cash Loans, was arrested and appeared in court with the two male suspects. She was granted bail of R2 500, while Baloyi and Nklema were remanded in custody until their bail was granted on Monday.

According to SAPS there is still one male suspect at large. “It is alleged that three male suspects entered the premises of Sizakalani pretending to look for financial assistance.

Once the suspects were inside they approached one of the employees who opened a security gate to the secure staff office. One of the suspects allegedly pointed a firearm at one of the employees, instructing him to move into the staff office where the other three employees were preparing the money to start the day’s business.

All four employees were then tied down with cable ties. The suspects proceeded to the drop-in safe and took an undisclosed amount of cash. They fled in an orange VW Polo and a silver-grey Renault Sondero,” said spokesman for Malalane SAPS, Const Bheki Nkosi.

The robbery resulted in a high-speed chase around Malalane and Komatipoort, Strydom Block and Coopersdal when they were cornered on a farm in a joint effort by the police, local security companies and local farmers.

According to Nkosi, two suspects were cornered and apprehended, but one managed to escape. “Two vehicles and a firearm were siezed. The stolen money was also recovered. It was stashed in a refuse bag.”

He added that the third suspect was still at large.
