Mayor’s visit inspires pupils

“You should always work together and strive to be the best”.

LYDENBURG – Learners of the Klipspruit Combined School’s day were made when they received a surprised visit from the mayor of the Thaba Chweu Municipality (TCM) on Monday.

In cooperation with Usenzela Wena Orphanage and local mines, Mr Michael Ncongwane, whose love of children and the education system is no secret, visited the school and donated 25 brand-new school uniforms to learners identified as children in need.

Ncongwane did his primary education at Marambane Primary School and later went to Mashishing High School for his secondary education where he obtained his matric by correspondence. He boasts a number of tertiary qualifications like a primary teachers certificate from Botshabelo Training College in Middelburg, a secondary teachers certificate of Vista University and a Bachelor of Arts (BA).

He started work as a teacher and principal at various schools and held several portfolios at local, district and zonal level of the Transvaal United African Teachers Association.

During his visit he inspired the learners with songs and dance and encouraged them to take their education seriously. “Let the sky be your limit”, he said and told them to “learn from the womb to the tomb”.

“You should always work together and strive to be the best”.

He praised the learners on their disciplined behaviour and said that they should always respect adults. “I am happy to be here and you make me proud. With such great behaviour I know you will never be like Malema.”

“We can not thank you enough. This is a wonderful gift and without the help of the mayor, Uzenzela Orphanage, the involved mines as well as Old Mutual and Feed a Child, this wouldn’t have be possible,” Ms Hazel Ngobeni, principal of the school, said.

A total of 100 uniforms were recently distributed at four local schools.
