Municipality urges community members to use water sparingly

On Wednesday morning, the municipality urged community members to use water sparingly as levels in the Crocodile River were low.

MALALANE – On Wednesday morning, the municipality urged community members to use water sparingly as levels in the Crocodile River were low.

However, it seems as though it is not following its own advice. A resident of Fish Eagle Bend, who wanted to remain anonymous, was shocked by municipal workers’ disregard of water management.

“While the community was told to save water, a pipe at the municipal park was left open the whole day. On my lunch break I informed the person at waterworks of the public notice that was sent to residents via SMS, but the water continued running until 16:25.”

The resident managed to take a photo of the pipe and how it had made a downhill stream towards the river.

Municipal spokesman, Mr Cyril Ripinga said, “I was unaware that there was a person doing this. The notice was sent to residents and I do not know if the message was given to him.”

He added that he would look into the matter and inform all municipal workers of the water shortage.
