LYDENBURG – The first Amazing Race for charity, hosted by Seymore du Toit and Basson Attorneys, was held last Friday at The Heads shopping centre.
More than 10 teams – in costumes and decorated cars – competed in this nail-biting dash for glory.
The race rules specified that to join every team had to submit a toy to be donated to a local charity.
Tersia Marshall, the public relations officer of the law firm, said the main idea of the race was to raise toys for charity and to spoil agents. “We wanted to give back to the community and to thank the agents for working with us, as well as doing some team building and creating interaction within the agency,” she explained.
“The beneficiary of the race is Lydenburg Christelike Maatskaplike Raad (CMR),” she added. The toys will be distributed to needy children.
The teams set off at 09:00. They were supplied with 13 clues and everyone was allowed to bring along tools that could prove useful.
They had to complete activities at various locations in town and some tasks required them to take photographs.
Possible answers and experiences along the way were shared, and the teams assisted one another to finish the race. The venue for lunch was the final clue they had to figure out.
Sequential Management Services, an accounting company, came first, followed by Pam Golding Properties and Deo Volente Estate Agency was third and also received the team spirit award.
Mhi Smit of Sequential Management Services, said they knew from the beginning they were going to win since they could figure out all the clues.
“We worked together and managed to understand every question which resulted in our moving faster than all the other teams.
“The venue was revealed in the last clue, the teams had to send an SMS with the name of their agency in order to progress to the location,” said Marshall. When the teams arrived at the final destination they were treated to a light lunch, cold drinks and had the opportunity to share jokes and experiences and do some dancing.
