Culpable homicide trial: Charles Loram dies

He experienced serious health problems and eventually was put on a waiting list for a donor heart. He was never fit to stand trial

MBOMBELA – Mr Charles Loram, who was accused of the death of Mr Michael Stenger after he was shot dead in January 2012, passed away last night.

Stenger was an employee of Loram’s business, Sound Systems. He was working on the morning of January 21, 2012, when Loram, who resided in a house next to the offices, saw four men entering the premises. He realised they were criminals when the fourth man pulled a balaclava over his face before entering the office.

He took a revolver, went to the office and fired shots. Stenger was shot in the process. Loram went to fetch his pistol and proceeded to fire more shots at the assailants who fled.

The police and Hi-Tech Security Nelspruit were summoned to the scene where Stenger was declared dead. Loram wasn’t charged with any crime initially and the docket was referred to a state prosecutor for a decision. It was then decided that Loram should be charged with culpable homicide.

He experienced serious health problems and eventually was put on a waiting list for a donor heart. He was never fit to stand trial.

Family friends informed the newspaper that Loram passed away last night. The newspaper phoned Sound Systems, but was informed that it would not comment.
