LYDENBURG – The Lydenburg Dienssentrum Home for the Elderly held a street fund-raising last Friday. The money raised would go towards funding for the senior-citizen programme, which was intended to assist elderly people who were struggling to make ends meet although they were still able to take care of themselves in their own homes.
Dienssentrum is a non-profit organisation (NPO) providing care for the elderly, in-home services, homemaker services, transport facilities, recreation, meal programmes and other services geared towards senior citizens.
Ms Haunette Erasmus, the administrator at Dienssentrum said those living within the home also needed financial assistance since it was an NPO. “We need funds to pay for medical check-ups and since we have load-shedding in the country we need a generator but we don’t have one,” she explained.
“I would like to ask the public to continue assisting us,” she added. “Our streets donations are done every second month, at the end of the month, just look out for our tables and members” she said. “As our token of appreciation we give the community members a sticker.”
