SKHILA – Skhila High School has raised the bar regarding keeping order in the school grounds by electing learners who will be working as campus care students.
According to the principal of the school, Mr Gerald Mokoena, a team of learners is the best way to keep everything running smoothly.
“We started with this project because we know that as learners, they know their classmates better than we do, and it will be easy for them to ensure everything is in order since they are always with their peers inside and outside class,” he said.
“Their responsibilities are to make sure that the learners do not litter in the school premises, they have to report any form of vandalism, report gambling and bullying, report infrastructural faults and defects, report door and window breakers, make sure the learners do not leave the school furniture outside, report drug sellers and smugglers and theft of school property,” he explained.
According to Glen Mlimi, one of campus-care pupils, he feels honoured to have such a responsibility. “I feel fortunate to be one of the few chosen to maintain order in our school.”
“I look forward to carrying out my duties and I am sure that we will all do a good job,” said Glen.
“The learners will work with the teachers. We want our learners to be responsible and know that it is possible to have a good school,” Mokoena said.
