Duncan Nyawo and his team arrive at Union Buildings, hand over memorandum

Nyawo will arrive at Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport at 14:30 on Sunday.

MBOMBELA – The group who managed to grab thousands of South Africans by the heart over the last week have reached their goal when they handed over a memorandum to a government representative yesterday afternoon.

Mr Duncan Nyawo and his four accomplices, Messrs Ian Venter, Jaco Klopper, Alex Leitch and Sipho Mnisi arrived in Pretoria on Wednesday evening after a gruelling 82 hour journey by foot from Mbombela to Pretoria to increase awareness of the murders on police officers and white farmers in our country.

On Thursday morning, their pilgrimage came full circle when they marched to the Union Buildings to hand over a memorandum to a representative of the government, stating that these murders should be prioritised on the same level as rhino poaching.

The delivery, however, was met with a certain level of hostility.

“The repesentatives did not want to come out and receive the memorandum in public,” said Venter. After a struggle, the group finally got the opportunity to hand it over. They were promised feedback within the next two weeks. If the government fails to respond adequately, AfriForum will organise a march to the Union Buildings.

The story of the five brave men even touched hearts outside the boundaries of South Africa. “We heard the story hit Australia,” Venter told Lowvelder. “Residents of Isreal and America also requested us to walk for causes in their countries.”

Venter and Klopper will arrive back in Mbombela today at 15:15. Those who would like to welcome them back are welcome to do so at the minibus stop at Sonpark.

Nyawo will arrive at Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport, Sunday at 14:30. All those who would like to welcome him back and show him their support are encouraged to do so.
