Two arrested for drugs appear in court

Last week's celebrated arrests were followed by two court appearances this week.

MBOMBELA – Two men who had been arrested by police officials during two huge drug busts over the weekend, appeared in court this week.

The first incident took place last Thursday night when 21 kilograms’ worth of drugs were allegedly found in the possession of Mr Sipho Simelane, who was apprehended during a roadblock on the N4 between Komatipoort and Mbombela. The SAPS drug unit’s Lt Col Paul Bester confirmed that 20 bags of a substance resembling heroin were found hidden in Simelane’s vehicle. Bester said the suspect admitted that he had picked the drugs up in Mozambique and that he was on his way to Gauteng. He appeared in the Barberton Magistrate’s Court on Monday and was charged with drug possession.

The case against him was postponed, but the next court date had not been confirmed yet.

In the second incident, a 34-year-man was apprehended behind Debonairs at the Crossing Centre. Mr Jacques Meiring, operational manager of Bossies Community Justice (BCJ), received a tip-off from an eyewitness who reported seeing the suspect packaging a white powder into small parcels on Friday afternoon. BCJ contacted the White River K9 Unit and the suspect was arrested after seven grams of heroin with a street value of R1 250 was allegedly found in his possession.

Although this accused was identified by police as Mr Christopher Rodger Mostert, a Mr Nicholas Robert Mostert appeared in the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court on Monday. He was charged with the possession of drugs. The case against him was postponed to June 2. The accused will remain in custody until his next appearance.
