Bergvlam’s CANSA activists going all the way

As part of CANSA's annual debutante and ambassador programme learners work with members of the organisation to raise funds for its care and support centre, awareness campaigns, and contributions to research.

MBOMBELA – High school learners may have a lot on their plates, what with schoolwork, extramural activities and discovering who they are. Yet they also find time for others, to try to make a difference in the lives of people they don’t even know.

CANSA annually runs a debutante and ambassador programme. Throughout the year learners work with members of the organisation to raise funds for its care and support centre, awareness campaigns, and contributions to research.

Learners have to be in grade 10 and up to participate. It takes hard work and teaches the participants valuable life skills, such as organisation. It also shows them the value of dedicating their time to the benefit of others.

As usual Hoërskool Bergvlam boasts a large number of participants this year. They told Lowvelder more about the projects they are planning.

KC Lowther and Abigail French will host a tea party for children where they can spend the day with “Disney princesses” and even take pictures with them for donations.

Nina Shabangu plans to have a Canstar event to raise awareness. “We would like to raise money for CANSA and with your help we can make the difference.”
