Mystery surrounds fatal shack fire
Mbatha suspects that his nephew might have been killed before his shack was set alight to conceal the murder.
A man was burnt beyond recognition on Saturday evening in a fire which totally destroyed his shack at Msholozi section in Emjindini. According to a family member, Petros Mbatha, Thomas Nelson Zitha (37) was living alone.
He said neigbours went to look for him and found the shack on fire.“According to the neighbours, he had a few drinks after which he went home. “When I arrived (Mbatha) I discovered his body next to his bed,” he said. Mbatha suspects that his nephew might have been killed before his shack was set alight to conceal the murder. “There was blood stains and a shovel on the scene. The door was unlocked and this leaves us with a lot of questions,” he said.
Mbatha, described his nephew as a good person. “He was not someone who went around begging. He worked part-time at the Caravan Park,” said Mbatha. While this reporter visited the mourning family, the councillor of the area, Sakhile Msibi also paid a visit to the family.
“It is devastating to lose such a young life. Our condolences goes out to the family,” she said.
Zitha is expected to be buried over the weekend. He leaves his brother and a sister behind. Anyone willing to assist the family can contact Mbatha on 071-442-7081.
