A spate of burglaries hit the city on the same night earlier this week. A number of suspects has been apprehended in connection with these residential burglaries.
On Monday, in the early hours of the morning, residential properties in Jan Frederick Street, Percy Fitzpatrick Drive, Swallow and Sunset View were targeted.
SAPS, ACS Security, Hi-Tech Security Nelspruit and Nelspruit Concerned Citizens (NCC) responded. Just over three hours later Mr Rohan Matthee of Hi-Tech Security Nelspruit reported they had arrested two suspects with stolen property in their possession. An hour later a third person was apprehended and his vehicle impounded with more allegedly stolen property in the vehicle. It was not yet clear if the incidents could be connected to similar ones committed last week in the same area.
On Friday NCC reaction members also responded to a call from a community member who reported an attempted break-in in Akwamaryn Street at around 03:00. The suspects were prevented from stealing anything thanks to the swift reaction by Hi-Tech Security Nelspruit which also responded to the incident.
On the same day, at around 06:00, members of the public spotted a man pushing a Weber braai near the old Pick n Pay. Witnesses said that when they approached him, he left the Weber and ran away.
A general warning was issued to the public after a gang had targeted Standard Bank and WesBank in Middelburg. Within 30 days seven vehicles (more than R500 000) were purchased with false documentation.
Locals should also be on the lookout for a Toyota Land Cruiser. It was stolen at Barlow World Toyota. The registration number is
HRX 904 MP. It is suspected that the driver might be on his way to the border and may pass through Mbombela. Should you see the vehicle, contact your nearest police station.
