Love triangle leaves one person dead

A love triangle has left one person dead, and another hospitalised facing a pending murder charge.

TONGA – Last Friday a 35-year-old man stabbed and killed a 33-year-old man in KaMaqhekeza.

It was alleged that the accused suspected that the deceased had been having an affair with his wife. At 18:30 the murder suspect confronted the victim at a local tavern and stabbed him.

Shortly after the incident angry community members apprehended and assaulted him before handing him over to the police. According to officers who were at the scene, the victim had sustained stab wounds to the neck and stomach.

By the time they arrived he was already dead.

The accused had been admitted to Tonga Hospital and was under police guard. He was expected to appear in the Nkomazi Magistrate’s Court, as soon as he made a full recovery.

Tonga Police Station commander Brig Velisiwe Mdaka, appealed to the community to stop taking matters into their own hands.

“As nothing can be solved through violence, the police will ensure that anyone that will be involved in any crime activities is arrested as the law is always ready to take its course in dealing with such people. Let us live together as a unity and fight against crime.” Mdaka explained.
