Gallery: Sold-out wine show for a good cause
A whopping 400 tickets were sold before the doors even opened. A total of 40 wine farms were present.
MBOMBELA – Based on the success of Friday evening’s Makro Bubbles & Barrels event at Bee Eaters Farm, it is clear that this city has a great thirst for wine-tasting events.
More than 40 wine farms, mostly from the Cape, exhibited their finest vintages, raising funds for Pro-Life Pet Rescue in the process.
Initially, only 300 tickets were made available before the event. However, due to popular demand, this number had to be increased to at least 400 before the doors even opened.
Karin Erasmus, founder of Pro-Life Pet Rescue, was blown away by the support.
“Wow, this was honestly such an amazing event,” Erasmus exclaimed.
Everyone had a wonderful time and they partied until late. I am so glad we sold out and that it was so much fun.
The evening was concluded with an auction, raising about R13 500 for the pet sanctuary.
“I am not sure how much money we made in total – we still need to do the maths. However, the auction alone was a huge success.”
A few lucky guests also walked away with prizes, carefully put together by selected wine farms.
“There were 30 wine farms and about 120 different wines and sparkling wines,” said Erik Zeeman of Makro Nelspruit. “Overall the evening was a major success. I think it was one of the best wine-tasting events I have attended in a long time.”
Makro paid for most of the expenses so Pro-Life could maximise its profit. “We enjoyed working with Pro-Life and will continue to do so in future.”
Rebecca Merensky, wife of Bee Eaters’ owner, HP Merensky, capatalised on the festivity as she celebrated her 40th birthday on the same day.
“What better way to celebrate this milestone than with good friends around some of the country’s finest wines,” she told Lowvelder.
