Robbies strut their stuff for the Mr and Miss Rob crown

During a glamorous affair in the school hall on September 3, complete with glowing statues and strobe lights, this year’s Mr and Miss Rob were crowned.

Mr and Miss Rob is one of the highlights on Hoërskool Rob Ferreira’s calendar and showcases the talent, wisdom and modelling skills of some of their brightest pupils.

Entrepreneur and Robbie alumni, Ettiëne Pretorius was the MC and guest speaker of the evening and entertained and inspired the audience. He spoke about entrepreneurship and encouraged the participants to make their dreams a reality. Pretorius, who is shorter than a few participants, taught the following comeback to one of the shorter participants, “Just because I’m short doesn’t mean I’ll never be big.”

The programme started off with contestants dominating the catwalk in informal wear while friends and family were cheering.

Next, the boys and girls paired up to perform a creative item in which they had to show their interpretation of what African joy is. Acts ranged from singing and dancing, painting and joke telling to a hilarious Red Riding Hood retold as ”As Rooikappie vandag ‘n tiener was” by Edrich Kotzee and Vallery Marais and a memorable performance of Romeo and Juliet’s meeting in the afterlife by Ti-Ané Labuschagné and Pieter Broodryk.

The learners then modelled in formal wear and the girls stunned in a variety of evening gowns. The boys also elicited loud cheers in their suits.

The top five were then chosen and each had to answer one of the judges’ questions. Ettiëne, as well as the spectators and judges, were very impressed by the sincere and well-thought-out answers regarding their futures, careers and dreams.

A Kudu bust worth R23 000 from bronze artist Michael Canadas was auctioned off while judges decided on the evening’s winners. The winning bid was awarded at R8 000.

Next contestants nervously waited for the winners of 2015 to be announced. The Rob Ferreira Ambassador of 2015 is Liané Stoop, Megan Buytendag was chosen as Miss Photogenic and Inge Genis received the title of Miss Personality.

The second prince and princess were Charl Jacobs and Sumari Bieldt, and Didi Mapaila was first princess. Arno Smith impressed the judges and received the sashes for both Mr Personality and first prince.

Karabo Selepe was crowned the new Miss Rob, with Harry Ramokgopa as Mr Rob, as well as Mr Photogenic. There were smiles and tears of joy as the winners posed with their crowns, sashes and prizes and were cheered and hugged by friends and family.

The school would like to thank all their sponsors who helped make the evening a great success, as well as everyone who lent a hand in its smooth running.
