The annual SCOTCH tea for the town’s elderly is held at the school and organised and run by grade seven pupils as part of their community service and to improve their entrepreneurial skills.
The pupils raise funds to pay for the food, which was provided by Cindy Thomas of Sabie River Sun. They arranged the decor and gifts and had to set up the tables (provided by Casa do Sol), gazebos, serve as waiters and pack up everything afterwards.
There was a variety of entertainment activities, including poetry recitals, a piano duet, a song from Oliver Twist sung by the school as a preview for its concert at the end of the month and a quiz, which was won by table seven. Luke Thomas did a great job as the master of ceremonies.
Headmaster Coco van Aardt says this annual event is a great way to connect the generations and teach the children to take care of the elderly. They also learn about event planning, gain organisational skills and learn how to work as a team.
