Sekhukhune Express bus attacked by the unknowns
He revealed that another four of his buses had been attacked since Monday October 12. “Our buses are targeted, we have incidents were they are burnt and thrown with stones. We understand that people might have disagreements with the mines, but destroying our property is wrong,” he pleaded.
BURGERSFORT – Mine workers of Mototolo Platinum Mine survived a brush with death after their bus was thrown with stones by unknown people on October 13.
The Sekhukhune Express bus was thrown with a deluge of stones, with one hitting the top of the front windscreen and injuring the driver. The incident happened just next to the Tubatse Crossing Mall traffic lights. The bus was travelling from the mine to Praktiseer.
Speaking to Steelburger/Lydenburg News the manager of the bus company, Mr David Nkosi revealed that the driver sustained injuries to his head.
“The bus was attacked by men who were travelling in a white bakkie. With God’s grace the driver did not lose control and managed to stop the bus. Imagine if he had lost control of it, the situation could have been worse,” Nkosi said.
According to him the driver is recovering at Dilokong Hospital.
He revealed that another four of his buses had been attacked since Monday October 12. “Our buses are targeted, we have incidents were they are burnt and thrown with stones. We understand that people might have disagreements with the mines, but destroying our property is wrong,” he pleaded.
Mine workers who were on the bus confirmed to Steelburger/Lydenburg News that the drivers were always thrown with stones when travelling on the R555.
“Our lives are at risk, we are sometimes even scared to go to work and are not sure if we will be able to come back home; it’s a sad situation,” they said.
On Wednesday Nkosi reported the matter to the Burgersfort police. It seems like the buses are a target for hooligans. In August this year an articulated Sekhukhune Express bus was torched near Kweledi Secondary School.
