Family homeless after storm destroys house
"We thank the Almighty for saving us during the storms. The house was about to collapse on us while the rain and hail came straight through the roof. We had to seek shelter under a mattress. We survived, but our belongings had been destroyed, we don't have anything."
BOTHASHOEK – It was a tough festive season for the Malatji family as their seven-room house was destroyed by storms.
While most locals celebrated Christmas and welcomed the new year in a jovial mood, the family of four was homeless and seeking shelter.
Speaking to Steelburger/Lydenburg News, Jan and Pinky Malatji pleaded with locals to help them bring some balance in their lives.
“We thank the Almighty for saving us during the storms. The house was about to collapse on us while the rain and hail came straight through the roof. We had to seek shelter under a mattress. We survived, but our belongings had been destroyed, we don’t have anything.”
“We are in dire need of shelter,” Jan Malatji said. The unemployed Malatjie pleaded with the Greater Tubatse Municipality’s disaster management team to help him.
This is not the only family to have been severely affected by recent storms in Tubatse. The Sekgobela family in Dresden is also homeless after their dilapidated mud house was destroyed by heavy rain.
