Sembcorp Silulumanzi has called on all residents in the city to report any water leaks they encounter to the water provider as soon as possible.
This week Mr Richmond Jele said the fastest way to have a leak attended, is by notifying Sembcorp’s control room.
“One critical piece of information needed for a speedy response is the street name and nearest stand number,” he said.
“This enables our team to locate the problem quickly without having to drive around the area and wasting valuable time and resources trying to locate the exact site of the leak.”
This came after an observant resident noticed one sprouting from inside the fence of the substation near the Steiltes Reservoir over the weekend.
Jele says this particular leak has never been reported to them. While they don’t fix leaks on private property, he says they can switch off the water supply and notify the owner, to avoid losses.
“Leaks inside properties or beyond the meter are the responsibility of the customer. We will immediately alert the relevant person to fix the leak if confirmed to be inside their property.
“If outside the property and before the meter, then that is our immediate responsibility to attend to as soon as we receive such report.”
By Tuesday midday the leak in question had been fixed.
Contact the control room on 013-752-6849, 086-174-5858 or 086-2-SILULU.
